Inner Quest
Your Journey Within

Privacy Policy

Effective September 4, 2026

Inner Quest is a personal-growth platform where you journal, take psychology assessments, track wellbeing, and have private conversations with an AI assistant. The data you generate here is sensitive — it describes how you think, feel, and relate to others. This policy explains what we collect, why, where it lives, who can see it, and how you can take it back or delete it.

Who we are

Inner Quest is operated as an independent project by its founder. For privacy-related requests, contact inner-quests@googlegroups.com.

What we collect

Account information

  • Identity — your name, email address, and profile photo, provided by Google when you sign in with your Google account (we use Firebase Authentication).
  • Phone number (optional) — only if you choose to link WhatsApp so you can chat with the assistant via WhatsApp.

Content you create

  • Journal entries, gratitude entries, breakthroughs, and letters.
  • Answers to personality and wellbeing assessments (MBTI, Big Five, Enneagram, DISC, attachment style, values, and others) along with their computed results.
  • Notes you write about other people in your life (contacts), how you perceive them, and any comparisons you run between your perceptions and theirs.
  • Goals, action items, habits, mood logs, body/energy/finance trackers, and similar self-tracking data.
  • Coaching and therapy session notes, including homework items.
  • Voice notes you record and any transcriptions of them.

AI conversations

  • Messages you send to the AI assistant and the assistant’s replies. To produce relevant answers, the assistant is given context from your account (recent journal entries, assessment results, current page), so your conversations are not anonymous to it.
  • If you connect Inner Quest to ChatGPT or another compatible AI assistant, the assistant can use the Inner Quest tools you authorize to read or change data in your account. Tool results can include private reflections, relationship notes, coaching or therapy records, meeting transcripts, career information, goals, and actions when those categories are relevant to your request.

Usage data

  • Analytics events (pages visited, assessments completed, features used) collected via Firebase Analytics and our own event log.
  • First-touch acquisition information such as the landing-page path, referral hostname, and campaign tags. We do not retain the full referring URL or unrelated query parameters for attribution.
  • Technical metadata when you take certain notable actions (sign-up, key milestones): your IP address, approximate location derived from that IP, browser, and device. This is used to send the project owner a single notification email and is not used for advertising or sold to anyone.

What we do with it

  • Run the product.Display your data back to you, generate insights, score assessments, surface trends in your trackers, personalise the AI assistant’s responses, and fulfill requests you make through an authorized connected AI assistant.
  • Communicate with you. Send transactional emails (account events, assessment completions, reminders you opt into) and — if you link WhatsApp — send messages from the assistant via WhatsApp.
  • Improve the product. Aggregate, anonymous-where-possible usage data helps us understand which features are useful.
  • Keep things working. Diagnose errors and prevent abuse.

We do not sell your data, rent it, or share it with advertisers. We do not use your journal entries, assessment answers, or AI conversations to train any third-party AI model.

Who else sees your data

Connected AI assistants — only when you authorize them

When you connect ChatGPT or another compatible AI assistant, Inner Quest uses OAuth authorization to limit access to the scopes you approve. The assistant receives only the tool inputs and results needed for requests you make in that assistant. You can disconnect access at any time. Inner Quest tools operate on your private account data and do not publish it or send messages to other people.

Other Inner Quest users — only when you ask

Most of what you create is private to you. Some things are shareable, but always at your initiation:

  • Comparison invitations. If you invite someone to compare assessment results, your results become visible to that person.
  • Coaching and therapy shares. If you share a session with a coach or therapist, they can see what you shared.
  • Direct shares. If you generate a share link (e.g. for a personality result), anyone with the link can view it.

Service providers we rely on

The following services process your data on our behalf, under their own privacy policies. We chose each one because it lets us provide a specific feature that would otherwise not exist:

  • Google / Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), file storage, email delivery, and analytics. Most of your data lives here.
  • OpenAI— powers the AI assistant. Messages you send to the assistant, plus context from your account, are sent to OpenAI’s API to generate responses. If you install the Inner Quest plugin in ChatGPT, OpenAI also processes the Inner Quest tool inputs and results needed to answer your requests. OpenAI states that API data is not used to train its models; your use of ChatGPT is also governed by the settings and terms of your ChatGPT account.
  • Meta / WhatsApp Cloud API— only if you link WhatsApp. Your phone number and the messages you exchange with the assistant via WhatsApp pass through Meta’s servers.
  • ElevenLabs — if you use voice playback features, text we want to read aloud is sent to ElevenLabs to synthesise audio.
  • Deepgram — if you record a voice note, the audio is sent to Deepgram for transcription.
  • Google Places — if you use location-based features, address queries you type are sent to Google Places for autocomplete.
  • Google Calendar — only if you connect a Google Calendar; we read and create events you authorise.

Legal disclosure

We will only disclose your data if required by a valid legal process, and we will tell you unless legally prohibited from doing so.

Where your data lives

Your data is stored in Google Cloud (Firebase) infrastructure. Google replicates Firestore data across multiple regions for durability. Backups are managed by Google as part of the platform.

Security

  • All traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
  • Data at rest is encrypted by Google Cloud.
  • Access to your data inside the application is gated by Firebase Authentication and Firestore security rules — only you (and people you have explicitly shared with) can read your records.
  • No system is perfect. If we ever discover a security incident affecting your data, we will notify you promptly.

How long we keep things

We keep your data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we delete the personal data associated with it. Some aggregated, non-identifying analytics may persist after deletion because we cannot single it out.

Your rights

  • See what we have. Most of your data is visible to you directly inside the app. For anything you can’t see, email us.
  • Export it. You can request a data export from the Settings page.
  • Correct it. Edit or delete individual entries inside the app at any time.
  • Delete it. You can request account deletion from Settings, or by emailing inner-quests@googlegroups.com. Deletion removes your records from our active databases.
  • Withdraw consent. Disconnect WhatsApp, Google Calendar, connected AI assistants, or other integrations at any time from Settings or the connected service.

If you are in the EU/EEA, UK, California, or another jurisdiction that grants additional privacy rights (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you have those rights too — including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. We will respond to verified requests within 30 days.

Cookies and similar technologies

We use a small number of cookies and browser-storage entries that are necessary to keep you signed in and remember preferences such as your theme. We do not use third-party advertising cookies. Firebase Analytics may set its own first-party cookies to count unique sessions.

Children

Inner Quest is not directed at children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes, we will revise the effective date at the top and, when the change is significant, notify you in-app or by email.
